Read This and Never Turn Back: How to Subscribe via RSS
I'm constantly amazed how many smart people are still surfing the web in the same way they did five years ago.
I used to do the same; keeping a bunch of bookmarks to sites I knew where full of good stuff and regularly clicking my way through them to look for new info. That's until I finally got tired of trying to manage these bookmarks on several computers and having to visit sites that were never updated.
At last I discovered RSS, being able to subscribe to exciting stuff that is automatically delivered to my virtual doorstep once anything new is published.

Looking at my logs for this humble blog, it seems like very few of you are using any kind of news reader. I've been thinking about writing up a tutorial on RSS for beginners, but of course someone has already done it. Here's the Oprah Winfrey explanation:

A small tip. If you are running MacOSX you can set your screensaver to RSS visualiser and then whenever your computer is idle you can view the RSS feeds you've subscribed too.

Great tip, but how can you be sure you see everything you're subscribed to? I'd hate to miss a single post on several of my sources...

I read this site almost exclusively through my feed reader (on OS X). I only jump into a page if there's more content or I need a full-on browser to see it.

I copied your RSS address and pasted into my favorite RSS client, NetNewsWire, but it appears your feed was last updated September 6th. I have that trouble from time to time with Blogger as well.

Mike,
Thanks for pointing this out, I used to use FeedBurner for the RSS feed, since Blogger only provides Atom. I got sick of not being able to tell FeedBurner to publish my entire posts instead of just the first few lines, so I abandoned it and told people to switch to the direct Atom feed (I know, it's not RSS like the link says, but I'm hoping I'll be able to make it RSS soon) at:
http://generalspecialist.com/feed/rss.xml
It turnes out the old FeedBurner feed was grabbing an old file off the server, which I have now corrected. But please use the direct lnk to the feed instead of the old FeedBurner feed, an you'll find all my new glorious postings. :-)
Keep up the good work over at http://hdforindies.com !

ghobii,
Glad to have you back, you must have been one of the 25 people still being subscribed via FeedBurner!
